Kids Alive International is a non-profit, Christian organization that walks with vulnerable children facing trauma such as child abuse, sexual violence, and neglect to help bring healing and restoration as well as the love of God. They work with communities and governments in 7 different countries to offer education, protective care, justice advocacy, and family strengthening.

Since 2010, Kids Alive Guatemala has focused on the restoration of children who have suffered from sexual abuse. Through protective care and justice advocacy programs that offer therapy, social services, and legal support, children in Guatemala find hope, healing, and faith. Their goal for each child is to know the love of God, to understand they are cherished, and to be equipped with the emotional, physical, and spiritual tools they need to thrive and heal.

Oasis is a Kids Alive safe house for girls ages 4-17 that have been removed from their homes by the government after experiencing sexual abuse. Girls will often stay at Oasis for 1-2 years or more while Oasis works to bring a holistic model of healing to these girls. Each girl is able to work extensively with psychologists and social workers to help them find restoration and prepare for any court trials that they may have as well as managing a safe place for the girls to return to after their time at Oasis. Oasis currently houses 30 girls and focuses on a Trust Based Relational Intervention to help get the healing process started. Oasis also provides daily Bible studies for the girls as well as a large group devotion once a week as Jesus is the ultimate healer and restorer.

Casa Ester is a safe house for girls ages 18+ who have experienced sexual abuse and aged out of the Oasis program. These girls in Casa Ester are not able to reassimilate into regular life yet and often times still in need of extensive care. The girls at Casa Ester work with psychologists to bring healing through their trauma. They also get occupational training to be able to take next steps as they enter adulthood. A few girls at Casa Ester are able to work during the day and a few others have been able to attend classes at university. Many of these girls have learning, mental, and/or physical disabilities as a result of the trauma they went through so Casa Ester provides a safe place for them to navigate life with their disabilities and receive multiple different forms of care.

Kids Alive has a justice center located in the southern part of the country where rates of sexual violence against children are some of the highest in the nation. The center is made up of Lawyers, Psychologists, and Social Workers who take on cases of children impacted by sexual violence. The lawyers then help the child walk through the court and legal process to prosecute their offender. The psychologists work towards bringing emotional restoration and healing for these kids. The social workers help to make sure that the child is out of their abusive situation and works with families and communities to make sure the child is getting the long lasting, safe care that they need.

Please join Kids Alive in praying for Guatemala as they are working towards building a second justice center in the country to help take on more cases and be able to walk through the court system with victims to help bring restoration and justice. Kids Alive is currently in the fundraising stage for this new project.
In Guatemala only 1% of cases achieve justice so convictions are important but can’t be the only goal so a good portion of the work the Justice centers do is to bring immediate safety and long-term restoration.

“and provide for those who grieve in Zion - to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.”
