GUATEMALA
Guatemala has a population of about 18,609,000 people with around 59 different people groups that make up this population. 95% of the country is Christian adherent with there being at least one known unreached people group in Guatemala. The word Guatemala means ‘place of many trees.’ Guatemala has a deep-rooted history and current culture in Mayanism and today, 42% of Guatemalans are Mayan.
Guatemala City is the largest city in Central America, and it is situated in a mountain valley called Valle de la Ermita. Guatemala City has a population of roughly 1 million people. 45% of Guatemala City is Roman Catholic, 42% Protestant, and 11% no religion.
Some of the biggest challenges Guatemala faces today are food insecurity, systematic poverty, and impacts of climate change on agriculture.
