What is S.O.A.P.?

SOAP is a method of journaling that is a simple and effective way of integrating scripture into your life. “SOAP” stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer and allows a fresh look at scripture and its life application.

How do I use this journal guide?

To journal with this method, simply follow these easy steps:

Step 1 - Read the Bible according to your reading plan and ask for the Holy Spirit to teach you

Step 2 - As you are reading, underline or highlight anything the Lord impresses on you that you can

apply to your life.

Step 3 - When you have finished reading, record what God has shown you from your readings,

those things that you have underlined.

Step 4 - Write out the Scripture reference or whole verse. Write out an Observation from the bible

passage. Write out an Application for your life personally. Write a Prayer to God reflecting on what you have just written about.

Scripture- “ For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.” Matthew 12:33- 35

O

Observation- What is within someone’s heart is what comes out of their mouth. When good things are stored up within their heart, they will overflow with all kinds of good things in their life.

A

Application- What am I storing within my heart? What am I filling my heart with? I desire to fill my life with good things, and store them within me, so that good things will overflow from my life to those around me.

P

Prayer- Lord Jesus, please fill my heart with all good things from You. Thank you for the deposit of Your Holy Spirit with in me. As I read Your word, may you fill me up. Lord help me to store many good things within my heart so that You may overflow from within me and positively influence those around me. Lord may I live a fruitful life of good things.
